January 24, 2008 – Sheikh Mohammad al-Moayad and his companion Mohammad Zayed terminated 5 years in detention. They were detained in January 10 , 2003, in Frankfurt airport by the German authorities, according to a request by the United States.

A recent medical report explained that Sheikh al-Moayad suffers the most dangerous stage owing to chronic diseases afflicting him and the bad conditions of his detention.

The US lawyer of al-Moayad and Zayed Mary Newman described their arrest conditions very tough, explaining that there are urgent human causes to transfer Sheikh al-Moayad and Zayed into an appropriate jail, given their current medical conditions.

Newman said that Zayed also suffers from a nervous breakdown because of the conditions in which he lives, adding that it is difficult to imagine the full isolation both men live in.

Newman noted that the court system in the United States does not give any effective ways to compel the authorities to transfer al-Moayad and Zayed to a better prison, but that it is possible to transfer them through diplomatic contacts with the US Prosecutor who has powers in this regard.
